CVMC Nurses – Our Caring Shows

While CVMC nurses track many clinical quality indicators in the care of their patients, perhaps one of the most important measures is the unsolicited compliments we receive from those we serve.  A sampling of those compliments from 2008 follow:

"I would like to commend one of your employees who my family and I came in contact with during a surgery at the Day Surgery Center.  Her name was Kelly Ward.  She is an excellent employee who provided me with a sense of relief about my 6 year old having surgery.  I was about to back out of having it done when Kelly called to set up the appointment time with me.  She answered all of my questions professionally and courteously.  Then, I was so glad that she was one of my son’s nurses on the day of the surgery!  She was very thoughtful and kind to us and to my son and we just wanted you to know that she should be commended!”

“I wish to express my most sincere appreciation to you and your staff for the very professional and friendly care and attention I received at your Center during my recent confinement in April.  The community of Hickory is most fortunate to have the high quality service available through your organization.  I hope and trust that you and the center will continue to be a vital part of Catawba County.”

“Just wanted to tell you what a wonderful job the staff here at CVMC has done.  My father was a patient here in November 2007 until January 1, 2008.  He passed away on New Year’s Day.  The staff on the medical floor was very kind, courteous and caring.  I would just like to personally say CVMC is a wonderful place to work.  I work in the ED and have been here  when patients come in and are admitted from here, but it is different when it is your family member.  Dad’s stay was extremely difficult for him and mom during the holiday season, but we were able to have Christmas with him.  Special thanks to all the staff in Respiratory, Lab, Radiology, Pulmonary Rehab, Dietary and Nursing staff from ED to Medical floor that took part in his care the times he was here then and before.  Dr. Daniel Anderson and Dr. Wilson were understanding to his needs.  Also a thank you to the docs at Hickory Cardiology, Dr. Locke and others who have checked on him.  I still have people on occasion here to ask me about Dad that may not be aware of his death.  The nurses on medical floor still ask how my mother is doing.”

“I don’t think I’ve ever had any transport (Neonatal Transport) to be as professional and courteous. Rachel was wonderful!!”

“I wanted to take a moment to commend several employees who were instrumental in helping a needy family last Wednesday on our unit. It was most impressive the caring and compassion that was shown by a interdisciplinary group. We had a patient that was going to be discharged home, 3 children, no heat or food. Dr. Deleary graciously reached in his pocket to give money for food for the 2 children that were present and this was not even his patient. The staff working that day from pharmacy, case management ( Lisa Yount, Barbara Stark), utilization management, radiation therapy (Yeyliana Cedeno) and all the surgical staff all gave unselfishly and were able to raise enough money to buy this patient a large space heater and enough groceries for a few days and a small Thanksgiving dinner. This is what makes each and everyone of you special and makes CVMC such a wonderful place to work.  It is a true blessing to work here, not with co-workers, but with family. You all do a great job and truly made me and a needy family thankful this Thanksgiving. Happy Holidays!”

“I was pleased with my care at the hospital – especially the nursing staff. No matter what day or time of day, they were very professional and caring.”

“In the telemetry unit, there was a young nurse, dark hair, shoulder length. I believe her name is Lindsay. She took the time to make Mom’s stay as effortless and painless as possible. Extremely personable, professional, has a great future ahead. Thanks to all the caretakers, especially Lindsay.”

“I was on the 7th floor for nine days.  I just want you to know that the nurses and the others were extremely nice and professional.  Nurses Dan and Karen Ashley went out of their way to make us feel like we were special and that really made an impression on me.  They were super people and I appreciated everything they did.  Also Cindy that does the groups was exceptional!  All the others whose names I don’t know were just great!  I think you have some of the best people on your staff on the 7th floor and I was really helped!”
