The Magnet Nursing management style is participative with nurse leaders visible, accessible and committed. Here, the leaders of our medical/surgical units work together to provide the best possible clinical outcomes for patients.

The Commission on Magnet Programs recognizes health care organizations for their excellence in nursing service. To date, less than two percent of the nation’s 6,000 hospitals have been named Magnet facilities. Catawba Valley Medical Center has earned not one, but two consecutive Magnet designations since 2001.
The Magnet Hospital designation, bestowed by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), recognizes nursing programs that provide high quality patient care in an environment that encourages continuous staff development, nursing leadership and community involvement. Research shows that Magnet hospitals are not only more effective at attracting and keeping quality nurses, but patiens there have lower mortality rates and shorter lengths of stay than at non-Magnet hospitals.
At CVMC we believe our Magnet status is a direct result of our fundamental commitment to the highest quality care possible – through exceptional staff, advanced technologies and leading edge practices – for the communities we serve.

“There is a reason why CVMC achieved Magnet status. It’s because of the extreme commitment by everyone, from staff nurses to executive management, to achieving excellence. I like to tell everyone that we’re a beacon. People come here to learn how we practice. We’ve gone other places we’ve heard are offering leading edge services, only to find that we’re ahead of them with better trained staff and the latest technology…It’s a good place to be, both for nurses and for those we serve.”
