New knowledge is being generated every day in many fields across the globe, and there is a research-to-practice time lapse of years.  It is imperative to narrow the gap between publishing research and practice change.  Evidence-based practice (EBP) allows nurses to keep their practice current.  EBP integrates best evidence, clinical expertise and patient values into clinical decision making that enables our patients to experience better outcomes.

The Research & EBP Council has developed and continues to expand the evidence-based nursing practice program at Catawba Valley Medical Center.  Associate, bachelor, master and advanced practice nurses in positions of direct care and leadership comprise the Council’s membership.

CVMC is a nonprofit community hospital, not a large academic medical center.  However, we are committed to providing nurses the necessary resources to lead and participate in clinical research studies through the Department for Research & EBP.  The Department provides assistance for evidence-based practice initiatives and primary research projects including design, proposal development, data analysis, presentation, publication and practice change. Currently, individuals, small groups and unit-based teams are conducting research and EBP initiatives at the hospital.
