Catawba Valley Medical Center’s Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) were presented the Rape Crisis Center TEAM award in December 2009 for their service to the Rape Crisis Center and area victims of sexual assault. The Rev. John Robbins, Rape Crisis Center Board of Directors President and CVMC chaplain presented the award to the ED nurses who serve as SANEs: Stacy Buff, BSN, RN, CEN; Karen Drum, BSN, RN, CEN; Danielle Thurman, BSN, RN; and Angela Clark, BSN, RN.
SANEs offer victims prompt, compassionate care and comprehensive forensic evidence collection. In addition to helping preserve the victim’s dignity and reduce psychological trauma, SANE programs enhance evidence collection for more effective investigations and better prosecutions.
